VDP is a printing technique that allows you to create thousands of unique print items, each tailored with a different message, image or graphic for every recipient. This method is also referred to as variable information printing (VIP), variable imaging (VI), or variable data publishing, and is commonly used to create personalized marketing materials like x banners and other custom banners. How does variable data printing work?

For every variable data print run, a ‘static’ artwork design template and a set of unique data (such as lines of text, images, and/or design elements) are used. These components are printed onto each product simultaneously using digital printing software. With this process, there’s no need to manually create multiple variations of your artwork, saving you time and effort. This is particularly useful when creating custom banners like x banners, where each banner needs to have a unique design. The use of variable data printing allows you to streamline the process and produce high-quality, personalized materials efficiently.

What do I need to set up a VDP print run?

Setting up your artwork for variable data printing is a straightforward process. To get started, you’ll need a static artwork design file that includes all the design elements that will remain consistent across every printed item. Additionally, you’ll need a spreadsheet document containing all the unique data you wish to print. This spreadsheet should be saved as a CSV file, and it will serve as the source file for the variable data printing process. This simple process makes it easy to create customized marketing materials like x banners, allowing you to efficiently produce personalized products that are tailored to your audience’s needs.

What if I want to print unique images on each item?

Printing variable images is a hassle-free process with variable data printing. To print variable images, you simply need to add each image’s file name within your database. Once you have all your image files, static artwork file, and database file ready, send them to us in a folder file. Our printing software will then automatically match each unique data entry with the corresponding image file and print them simultaneously onto each item.

If you encounter any issues or have questions during the process, our team of experts is always available to help. Simply reach out to us, and we’ll be happy to provide you with the support you need. With our assistance, you can produce high-quality and customized marketing materials like x banners with ease.

How can I specify how VDP elements are arranged on my print design?

If you’re ordering an X banner, you have a couple of options for adding Variable Data Printing (VDP) elements to your design. At checkout, you can leave a note with your order, or if you’re using InDesign, Photoshop, or Illustrator, you can add placeholder text or graphics on a separate layer from the rest of your design.

No matter which method you choose, you’ll receive a digital proof of your X banner design. The proof will show you where the VDP elements are placed and how they’ll appear on the final printed banner. If you need to make any adjustments to the design before printing, simply let us know, and we’ll be happy to assist you.
